Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
Under general guidance of the Principal Investigator, the Chief Engineer, or project faculty members, the Power Electronics Technician will follow design documentation (electrical schematics, piping schematics, physical layout diagrams, etc) to assemble power electronic components and systems, and ac power and support systems associated with an experimental microgrid. Assembly work will often include liquid cooling subsystems. The PE Technician will also assist with diagnostics and repair of the installed electrical and mechanical equipment to support reliable and high-up-time laboratory operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Electrical Technician certification or equivalent plus two (2 )years’ experience in cabinet-level wiring of power electronics, or two (2) years’ BE in Electrical Technology, plus two (2) years’ experience in cabinet-level wiring of power electronics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience or certifications in making tubing connections for fluid systems used in cooling the power electronics.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of tools and processes associated with electrical power wiring and testing. Knowledge of tools and processes associated with making tubing and coolant connections. Ability to read and understand schematic and wiring circuit diagrams. Ability to read and understand tubing, plumbing, and piping diagrams.High degree of mechanical dexterity. Ability to work in teams or alone.
