We are seeking an Engineer to work on our distributed team with a variety of passionate Costco teammates serving as a driving force in Costco’s Infrastructure. This engineer will serve in the role of technical subject matter expert, refining existing functional requirements for the Infrastructure at Costco.
Domain Services Engineers serve as the primary point of contact for internal/external customers, project sponsors, contracted vendors and/or consultants. Proposes process improvement where needed for IT the organization. Prepares and presents reports defining service metrics and project progress.
This role requires an in-depth knowledge of Active Directory, Federation, Windows Server OS’s, Windows security, AD Proxy, Virtual Directory solutions and related technology.

ROLE
Automates, documents, shares, educates, delegates, and improves processes.
Creates conceptual and detailed technical design documents and standards.
Enhances automation of applications, systems, and platforms and identifies opportunities for streamlining, and continuous process improvement.
Partners with project managers, solution leads, and other stakeholders to establish the rough order of magnitude estimates, to create and maintain a robust framework to support applications, and to deliver quality solutions.
Contributes, interprets, and communicates enterprise, technical, project, and operational strategies to the team.
Develops team vision to drive new capabilities against a published roadmap, in conjunction with management.
Ensures that proposed and existing systems are aligned with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.
Formulates and directs activities that align short term goals and long term initiatives while providing accurate and timely estimates of work breakdown schedules.
Shares relevant information among teams.
Influences and drives adoption of best practices and high quality standards throughout the division.
Integrates diverse solution components across multiple platforms using industry standard interfaces.
Promotes and supports a culture of compliance, risk avoidance/mitigation, and corporate accountability throughout the organization through technical leadership, knowledge of business need, development and communication of policies, procedures, and plans, and assurance of solution designs that are in compliance with architecture standards, technology guardrails, security, and operational guidelines.
Optimizes team efficiency and performance through high level technical direction.
Uses subject matter expertise to support industry standard source control and source change management techniques.
Presents technical designs and solutions to executives, management, and other audiences to gain consensus and/or project approval.
Produces enterprise-level designs for Active Directory and Windows File Services for global initiatives following those through to implementation via collaboration with project and support teams.
Identifies opportunities to innovate, extend, and enhance service delivery everywhere possible.
Owns Root Cause Analysis and Problem Management for corporate Identity Management environment.
Serves as an escalation point for application support and troubleshooting, provides guidance and direction in resolution of escalated issues and/or complex production, application or system problems.
Serves as the first line of escalation support for domain technology issues that cannot be resolved by tier one and two server support.
Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs.
Installs, configures, and maintains Active Directory and third party software utilities for hardware systems within company operational guidelines.
Creates and maintains system documentation for domain technologies, including installation, configuration, and appropriate troubleshooting steps.
Improves existing processes through solutions to recurring problems and enhancements to existing solutions or documentation.
Provides training.
Manages customer satisfaction through effectively communicating and managing customer expectations.
Connects with external domain experts and industry leaders to evolve our core Active Directory and GPO foundations.
Establishes understanding and experiences supporting Active Directory infrastructure in a corporate environment and experience integrating with cloud environments (Azure).
Collaborates with internal Security Governance to ensure consistency to Company’s security policies and procedures.
Produces enterprise-level designs for key global initiatives and following those through to implementation through collaboration with project, engineering and support teams.
Manages Build, Deploy, and Release requests by acting as the focal point for driving project priorities within the team and coordination of work efforts as they correspond to project and IT needs.
Develops opportunities to innovate, extend and improve service delivery everywhere possible to industry standards and best practices.
Works directly with Costco’s Solutions Architects, Engineering, leadership team, vendors and architect to help implement solutions in support of the organization.
Establishes and communicates release schedules, expectations, and release activity progress. Provide reports across all involved teams.
Creates required release documentation that supports the release through its lifecycle, including a back out strategy.
Manages and controls issues and risks for the duration of the release cycle to ensure a well-organized and successful deployment.
Consults with various application owners (old and new) about authentication with Active Directory and LDAP connections and queries.
Serves as the primary point of contact for internal/external customers, project sponsors, contracted vendors and/or consultants
Prepares and presents reports defining service metrics and project progress.
Provides technical support of relevant infrastructure, applications, systems and process
Identifies and resolves system, application or process issues, escalates, reports and documents when needed.
Provides (scheduled) onsite support at various operation locations when needed.
Reports weekly on progress to the IT infrastructure Operations Manager of the region and escalates if required.
REQUIRED
Minimum 10 years overall IT experience with 3-5 years of experience working with Microsoft Identity technologies including Active Directory, Windows File Services, and Group Policies.
Demonstrates leadership skills successfully heading sophisticated projects through all phases of design and deployment.
Quick to understand Costco’s technical needs and requirements and recommend solutions.
Experience providing 3rd level support of large, mixed (on-prem and cloud) Active Directory environments.
Must show a progressive advancement in responsibility including deep troubleshooting technical skills.
Must have an understanding of how to identify and instill industry best practices.
Ability to translate technical issues into understandable business language for end users.
Experience working in a fast paced retail environment with a career track record of engineering, developing, deploying, and maintaining business critical systems in the area of technical expertise including hands on solution development and implementation experience.
Must be able to work in a team environment with a “can do” attitude capable of overcoming difficult challenges.
Self-motivated, with keen attention to detail and excellent judgment skills.
Ability to establish new standards for quality, performance, or productivity.
Must have excellent writing and communication skills, strong communicator with ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, contractors, managers, 3rd parties, and customers as needed.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including demonstrable experience effectively communicating technical ideas, challenges and solutions to peers, customers and clients.

Must have demonstrable abilities to train and mentor team members.
Be a subject matter expert on a broad variety of Active Directory-related questions (both on-premise and Azure AD)
Recommended
B.S. degree in computer science, information technology, and computer related discipline or 7+ years IT work experience in a global information technology infrastructure environment.
Prior experience successfully managing the delivery of technology solutions.
Consulting or Leadership experience.
Advanced Understanding of ITIL framework.
Project work using an agile framework and tools in sprints.
Work on a distributed team, that embodies teamwork and cooperation

Pay Range: $185,000 - $220,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
