Position Summary

Responsible for maintaining and improving plastics manufacturing processes for current products, support changes to current products and new product introductions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continually improve plastics manufacturing processes in terms of quality, safety, cost, delivery, and communication.
  • Create and maintain process documentation as applicable.
  • Support safety and ergonomic programs.
  • Troubleshoot plastics manufacturing issues as needed.
  • Support ISO and other initiatives.
  • Develop and implement new processes or change current processes based upon sound manufacturing or industry practices, may involve implementing small to medium scale new processes.
  • Assignments usually include one or more of the following: equipment specification, qualification of processes, acquisition of replacement tooling, acquisition of new tooling, work analysis, ergonomic issues, rearrangement of layouts, development of new layouts on a limited scale and other projects.
  • Act as a liaison with product engineering and manufacturing program management as needed.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

  • Ability to apply standard industry practices and techniques in specific situations.
  • Have specific knowledge of tooling, fixtures, gauge design and build as well as other equipment associated with a plastics manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints as well as other associated Mercury and industry standards.
  • Have a general understanding of product and material specifications.
  • Ability to interact in a team environment in support of organization goals and objectives.
  • Have a sense of urgency around problem solving.
  • Effective verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make independent judgments regarding technical issues.
  • Has a good working knowledge of quality systems, SPC and analysis tools as related to continuous improvement.
  • Must possess a good knowledge of process flow and development as related to injection molding and finish machining.
  • Good understanding and the ability to facilitate common problem solving and analysis tools such as but not limited to, PFMEA, Cause and Effect
  • Ability to train and become a certified Green Belt.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal Lean Six Sigma Green belt certification
  • Solid comprehension and listening skills
  • Excellent analytical and data analysis skills, careful attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, results-oriented, and capable of working independently within deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of focus, flexibility, and productivity
  • Works well with others in a cross-functional team environment

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or equivalent degree) is required
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience
  • Extensive working knowledge and understanding of diverse manufacturing operations
  • Proficient in lean manufacturing tools and strategies, and process improvement methodologies
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and documents
