Basic Function

HF Sinclair is looking for a Network Architect, who conducts complex, expert level technical communications assignments and projects for the Information Technology Department under minimal supervision.


Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Provides technical support for highly complex network and Voice over IP (VoIP) systems
  • Provides network incident and problem management
  • Conducts network communications studies, proposal generation, and system implementation
  • Provides capacity, configuration, and performance management of internal and external networks consisting of both Cisco and Juniper platforms
  • Liaises with company’s management and staff, providing network and telecommunications systems administration and maintenance, including creating and maintaining disaster recovery plans
  • Works closely with service providers, both terrestrial and wireless, to report trouble and enable speedy resolution to functional problems and system outages
  • Generates and updates documentation on operational procedures, network topology, and network databases , i.e. LIDB
  • Coordinates software, hardware and system installations and changes with vendors
  • Writes clear, concise, and accurate documentation and provides training as required
  • Tests, and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements in development, quality assurance, and production environments
  • Recommends upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment
  • Completes special assignments and/or tasks assigned based on needs of the business
  • As needed, relocates technical equipment to and from an assigned location

Experience

A minimum of 12 years of job related experience required including a minimum of seven years Network Architecture/Design and three years in VoIP with some routing, switching load balancing, firewalls, and VPN experience is required.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related discipline), or equivalent work experience is required.

Required Skills

Ability to apply advanced knowledge of layers 1-7 of the OSI model to include an expert level understanding of networking technologies and platforms. In-depth knowledge of network security, wireless devices, routing principles and network architecture with a working knowledge of Voice over IP(VoIP) and some specialization with networking components such as applications layer firewall, firewalls, load balancing, routers, switches and virtual private networking (VPN). A general understanding of voice, video, and data (VVD) including the functionality of protocols supporting VVD. Maintains an advanced working knowledge of information systems concepts/design/development, systems development life cycle, recovery techniques, performance monitoring and tuning. Advanced decision-making, analytical, and problem solving skills; advanced conceptual and data analysis skills. Ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations, coupled with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Ability to lead and supervise the work of others and maintain professional relationships with the vendor community. Intermediate reading and writing skills.


PREFERRED SKILLS:

Cisco and Juniper certifications with an emphasis on Cisco TAC type network support are preferred:

Certifications include: CCNA, CCNP Routing and Switching, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, and/or CCIE are preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

May lead other Telecommunications/Network personnel as assigned and/or act as team lead on projects.

Work Conditions

Office based with travel up to 40% of time by land or air is required. Petroleum refinery, and warehouse/plant environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, and working in confine spaces. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions. From time to time, required to work long hours which may include nights, weekends, and holidays for regularly scheduled maintenance and emergency work and support as well as on-call availability.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance, perceiving color differences, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted). Job conditions may require lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 lbs, and climbing up to 15 ft.
