This position will travel up to 25% of time, domestically and internationally.
The selected candidate will be a direct report to the C4 Missile Defense Products and Solutions Manager in the division engineering functional and will support the C4MD International Strategy and Growth Operating Unit Director.
The Chief Engineer s responsible for a wide range of activities to include execution of all engineering processes in accordance with Northrop Grumman policies and guidelines, leading solution teams for new business and resolution of technical and engineering challenges as these arise. The Chief Engineer would be the technical authority for all aspects of engineering across the CHORD product line and portfolio of programs. As the Chief Engineer you will have regular interaction with business and customer leadership representing the portfolio technology solutions. The Chief Engineer will collaborate with the required stakeholders to maintain the CHORD technology roadmap(s).
The Chief Engineer responsibilities include:
- Development and collaboration of technical roadmaps/architectures aligned with business strategies, and interfacing to Operating Unit and Business Unit leadership
- Being the primary technical liaison across the organization
- Working closely with internal and external customers and stakeholders to achieve objectives
- Performing mentorship and knowledge transfer to increase technical depth of expertise with program engineers
A successful candidate for this role will:

- Perform as an advisor and SME of the program and be an independent technical authority to synchronize activities across the CHORD product-line and programs

- Partner effectively to achieve goals and objectives, specifically through interactions across organizational boundaries, specifically with engineering discipline counterparts

- Be an oft-sought counsel, within the CHORD product-line portfolio of programs, relied upon to solve unique problems and make sound engineering decisions
- Effectively communicate and inspire, both through verbal and written medium
Qualifications – Basic Qualifications:
- BS degree in engineering or related scientific field
- 18 years’ engineering experience with Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline OR 16 years’ engineering experience with Masters in a STEM discipline OR 13 years’ engineering experience with PhD in a STEM discipline
- Minimum 5 years of formal leadership experience for multi-discipline engineering populations and teams including budget responsibility.
- Knowledgeable of product development life cycle and interactions among engineering disciplines
- Experience with Hardware and Software design
- Active Secret Clearance
- Must be able to accommodate up to 25% travel with some overseas trips possible.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI or SCI in good standing
- Master's degree or higher in engineering or related scientific discipline
- Knowledgeable of model-based engineering methods and tools
- 5 years experience in either Systems Engineering or Software Engineering
- 5 years experience with Agile Methodologies
- Experience in designing complex system architectures
- Experience with FPGA modules
- Experience with Cross Domain Solutions or similar technologies
- Familiarity with Electrical Systems
- Familiarity with Networking
- Experience with Optimizing Systems
- Experience with Classified Systems and Environments
- Experience in technology maturation from technology readiness levels 3 through 6
- Experience with modern software concepts including containerization and software factory, including Dev*Ops, continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) and continuous authority to operate
- Experience with USAF Open Architecture standards, especially Open Mission Systems (OMS)
- Basic understanding of networking and communications
- Experience with data handling in constrained environments (data decimation, single board processors, distributed computing)
