Overview:
Aerojet Rocketdyne is currently seeking an Associate Engineer -Laboratory for our facility near Culpeper, in beautiful, rural Orange County, Virginia (1.5 hours from Washington, DC).
The Associate Engineer position will support the Solid Propellants and Materials group in Culpeper, Virginia. The potential candidate under close supervision and following established policies and procedures will support and conduct a variety of standardized testing. The candidate will assist in the set-up and operation of various types of laboratory instrumentation. Assistance in data reduction and report generation is also required.

10% - Consolidate results, prepare findings for reports. Requirements:

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
The
Associate Engineer performs work limited general supervision to perform manufacturing engineering assignments requiring a wide application of standard principles, theories and concepts in the field, plus a working knowledge of other related disciplines. Responsible for providing manufacturing engineering support for developmental and established solid rocket motor programs through the application of established manufacturing engineering procedures. Prepare and maintain manufacturing process planning, provides training and guidance to shop for personnel related implementation of planning. Assist in developing and implementing processing improvements. Assignments may involve supporting theoretical and experimental investigations, and assisting in planning of resources to support production requirements.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of chemistry, chemical handling, and sound laboratory principles are essential. Experience with DSC, TGA, FTIR, GC, HPLC, ICP, moisture analysis, particle size analysis, mechanical property testing, and Rheology is a plus.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Work place may include areas where a wide variety of chemical materials are used and stored. May involve potential exposure to variable noise levels. Must customarily have a high consciousness for personnel and equipment safety. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, shop coat, and respirator. Employees in this position must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
