Lead Social Game Designer
Job Description

Unannounced ProjectWe Want You
A new world and a new journey await you. A world ushering in a new era of adventure and where you can build relationships that last a lifetime, both online and off. If you’re a passionate game developer, and, well, a good human being, then we’d love to talk to you. We have a new AAA survival game in the works, set in a new IP for PC/Console. It’s going to be something very special, and we’d love to bring you along for the ride. Together, we’ll build something big, bold, and beautiful.
As the team’s lead social designer, you will be looked to as an expert and owner of features that connect a diverse range of players. Your team’s designs will motivate players to engage with each other in ways both competitive and collaborative, forming new bonds of friendship or rivalry, and ultimately, developing those bonds into meaningful relationships.
In the end, you, the team you build, and the features you develop together will be integral to our players’ ability to form communities that will last, ensuring that players look back on the time they spend in our world with fondness for years to come.
We need your help with:
- Evangelizing social considerations in product, technical, and design discussions, empowering other designers to see how their work would help or hinder the player’s likelihood of forming meaningful relationships.
- Refining strategic guidance and vision into specific, evocative designs that build momentum and excitement.
- Cultivating a dedicated team of designers to deliver features that bind players together through shared stories, bonds, and experiences they remember for years.
- Helping grow your team’s capabilities through mentorship and review
- Embracing Blizzard's core value of "Every voice matters," creating a safe space for collaboration, communication, and creativity across all disciplines and departments.
You’re good at:
- Explaining behavioral dynamics in ways that game developers of any level can understand and get excited about
- Coaching game developers to empathize with a wide range of players in their varied social roles
- Collaborating with user research and data science partners to measure the success of your efforts
- Using in-engine data and scripting tools to support the implementation of your own features.
- Self-critiquing and seeking outside feedback.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with AAA game engines such as Unreal, Unity, CryEngine, or Source
- Familiarity with programming and scripting languages such as C++, C#, Blueprint, Lua, or JavaScript
- A background in sociology, psychology, behavioral economics, or user research
- Experience with community management, live ops, or product management
- Playing a variety of video game genres and titles.
We believe our team is good. Really good. Granted, we’re obviously biased. But we also believe there are lots of developers out there who can make us even better. You could be one of those people. If you’re looking for a team where inclusion, thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration are all seen as critically important, we believe our team could be an excellent fit for you. Join us and help craft our future!
