MunichRe America Services (MRAS) IT Business Solutions delivers business value through the management of IT products including implementation of change projects in a disciplined, business focused, engaged and methodical way to Munich Re Global Specialty Insurance (GSI) organization.

The Senior Application Development Lead will play a key role in the operation and support of the GSI Insurance Application Business Services and Integrations. The role will report to the Head of Business Solutions of MRAS and be a key technology support partner to the Business Application owners. This role is responsible for ensuring development and delivery of business services that aligns with Service oriented architecture and implement integration patterns & solutions that follows our Munich Re standard solutions, aligned to risk and compliance requirements, to cover the financial and insurance operational capabilities of GSI.

The Senior Application Development Lead will be part of a cross-functional agile team that is geographically distributed to deliver high-quality digital solutions across a broad range of innovation initiatives, while championing high quality and consistent delivery practices.

• Responsible for the Development and Delivery of business services application components of GSI Underwriting, Claims and downstream applications
• Drive end-to-end Digital business platform services and technical delivery leveraging Munich Re’s Insurance stack which includes Underwriting, Claims, Billing, Data Warehouse and Integrations modules
• Lead Microservices design practice to implement guardrails for developing platform agnostic services ensuring governance, security, scalability and reusability across the group
• Lead the buildout of a scalable and extensible Business APIs ecosystem leveraging Munich Re’s insurance stack.
• Provide Technical leadership on delivery for strategic projects effectively meet the business needs during design, development and implementation phases
• Lead business services ecosystem operations ensuring the tech components are meeting established SLA commitments ensuring continuous improvement and risk mitigation
• Support Audit and Regulatory Responses including management of all supervisory requests, oversight of artifact repository and tracking of internal actions and deadlines
• Run the Service Component Delivery Governance including but not limited to the strategic planning and content review for the senior management
• Assists in the development of guidelines and recommends best practices to mitigate defects and ensure code quality
• Establish and manage Integration and Service components delivery KPI’s
• Collaborate with central Architecture team to define scalable product integration ecosystem
• Ensures the stable run of the applications and support the needs of business
• Undertake regular operational review meetings with AMS partner and vendors/providers including business stakeholders where required
• Maintain accurate and current information on applications, interfaces, servers, run roles and responsibilities etc. in central Munich Re repositories

Key Accountabilities

• Drive well planned, on time delivery of Product rollout commitments & SLA’s
• Lead high quality delivery outcomes that meet enterprise architecture standards, are cost effective, highly reliable and meet non-functional requirements
• Lead the development and delivery resources, working to achieve technical excellence
• Mentor Junior developers on architectural and security standards
• Develop agile ways of thinking and working
• Communicate clearly the goals to the development team and report of status to leadership
• Closely working with the PM, Program Management, Delivery Management to effectively manage Delivery plans & RAIDs
• Manage the financials for the Services team operation
• Manage internal and external supplier engagements
• Acts as an advocate for the team and monitors any performance issues within the team providing appropriate feedback

Your profile

• Graduate degree Computer Science or Information Systems or related field
• 10+ years or more of experience with P&C insurance transformation
• 5+ years professional background in Business Services & Application development and delivery in the Insurance industry
• 3+ Years or more of experience with establishing cloud enabled Business API’s
• 3+ years of Line Management of teams
• Good knowledge of IT SDLC and application management
• Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing to various audiences
• Strong communication and influencing skills when working with a range of internal stakeholders
• Collaborative working style, creating a culture of accountability and sharing
• Ability to function as a member of a technology team, willing to contribute in any capacity required to achieve success
• Adaptive interpersonal, communicative and consultative skills to function across all levels, communicating with peers, clients, and IT management.
• Ability to travel as needed
