Job Description

Engineers in the technical operations department will be focused to ensure that all elements in the Production departments (EAF production and Rolling Mills departments) are aligned to obtain desired optimum results in the operations, from melting through shipping.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Work safely to improve reliability and quality following all required safety policies.
- Consult with current technical personnel and corporate R & D personnel as required.
- Evaluate existing practices used for the melting refining and casting of steel and or the heating, rolling of blooms and rails, including in-line heat treatment operation (HH).
- Ensure existing practices are adequate to address all items critical to produce the best quality steel at the competitive costs.
- Develop new control plan and review existing documents to current customer and Cleveland cliffs best practices.
- Supply best practices recognized or developed to operating departments for continued improvement in reliability.
- Investigate and implement continuous improvements projects self-identified or from the cross-functional team’s work.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors’ Degree in Physical Science/Engineering
- One of the following – Metallurgy, Chemistry, Materials, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent problem solving, and organizational skills
- Good troubleshooting and team building skills
- Ability to lift more than 25 pounds on occasion.
- Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, use of hands, etc. is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years’ experience in an industrial/manufacturing setting.
- Experience in a union environment.
