Job Summary
SABIC’s technology Center in Houston is looking for an energetic and motivated reaction engineer to conduct research in developing new technology and improving existing processes for manufacturing chemicals and polymers.
How You Can Be the Impact
(Job Responsibilities)
The purpose of this role is to:
- Support and contribute to the delivery of results on research and development projects with business impact by developing first principles, multi-physics, transient and steady-state models of reactors and using the models to guide reactor and process development. Applying the above skills to polymerization/high viscosity systems is a plus
- Design experiments and use the data along with chemistry principles to provide mechanistic insights into the reaction pathway and convert the insight to representative kinetics models
- Generate and use reactor performance data to identify the role of transport phenomena relative to kinetics and use it to select/design reactors at different scales of operation
- Interpret reactor performance at lab and pilot scales to extrapolate to manufacturing scale
- Analyze plant data for operating reactors to determine performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities. Perform root cause analysis using reaction-engineering principles for any performance gaps, and propose relevant tests/experiments to validate hypotheses and close gaps.
- Identify the physical or chemical phenomena critical for reactor scale-up and use these insights to define CTQs for piloting.
- Use process modeling software like Aspen to integrate reactor model with rest of the plant model
- Assesses and addresses safety risks for themselves and their teams, applies higher level thinking about safety to provide paths to abate risks
- Report key findings to project team via written reports and oral presentations.
- Experience with using statistical tools to analyze data is a plus.
