This Mechanical Harnessing Engineer will be responsible for the development of our electrical harnesses for our hydrogen-battery powered ultra-class haul truck. They will work with Systems Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, & Electrical Engineers to bring together a complex vehicle system in our CAD/CAE and PLM software tools. They will be responsible for the design, routing, build and integration of the vehicle harnessing. They will work as an example to other engineers on the team and in the department.
Position Responsibilities
- Create and release on-schedule harnessing CAD, documentation, and drawings
- Document and communicate design decisions for design reviews
- Identify holistic solutions to the mechanical and electrical designs
- Assess system integration considerations for harnessing mechanical assemblies and their support structures
- Collaborate with the routing team on best practices when troubleshooting errors
- Represent the mechanical design team during the architectural definition and scoping phases of the project
- Work with the electrical lead, routing lead, and principal interconnect engineer to anticipate dependencies, highlight risks, and ensure the design is feasible
- Responsible for physical harness development including system routing, CAD and drawing creation, build, and vehicle integration
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2+ years of overall industry experience
- 2+ years of experience with CAD software packages and mechanical design
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with hardware design, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
- 1+ years of working on solutions with multi-discipline input
- 1+ years of experience analyzing material properties to inform design decisions
- 1+ years of experience in GD&T application on design drawings
- 1+ years of experience applying electrical principles & structural principles in a professional setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with routing, harness design, and electromechanical integration
- Proficiency in NX CAD and TeamCenter tools or other PDM/PLM systems
- Experience in static, dynamic, and/or thermal analysis of mechanical systems
- Experience in any of FEMAP, NX 3D Structures, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, or wiki documentation
- A knack for thinking about how the parts of a system work together
- Ability to write and speak clearly about technical subject matter
- Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast-paced, dynamic, small team environment
Additional Requirements
- Occasional travel within the United States and internationally to represent First Mode to its customers, vendors, and partners and to coordinate with the FM Team in Australia
Location
- This position will be located at First Mode's headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours
TOTAL REWARDS
Base Salary Range: $106,500 - $162,000
Mechanical Harnessing Engineer I: $106,500 - $144,000
Mechanical Harnessing Engineer II: $120,000 - $162,000
