GPI seeks an Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer to join our Manhattan or Babylon, NY office. Candidates should have experience in the designing, planning, system development, integration, and delivery of technology within complex transportation operational environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform all aspects of systems engineering design for intelligent and advanced transportation and transit management systems, automated and connected vehicles, and have a comprehensive understanding of the principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices/standards
  • Understanding of Advanced Traffic Management Systems, Connected Vehicles, Electronic Toll Collection, CCTV surveillance systems, electronic signage, traffic detectors, automated incident detection, video wallboards, transport-based telephony,
  • Automatic Vehicle Locators (AVL), Traffic Signals, Transit Signal Priority, Adaptive Signal Control, and communication networks
  • Knowledge of information and communications technology (ICT) systems architecture evaluation and design
  • Familiarity with big data storage, processing, and analytics in a transportation management context
  • Understanding of network security/design and controls systems design
  • Experience with communications, including fiber, telco, and wireless
  • Complete site visits, evaluate and analyze existing systems
  • Develop reports and plans based on project analyses and assessments
  • Attend project meetings

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Electrical, Computer Engineering/Science or similar; Masters degree is a plus
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred
  • 5 years of systems engineering design/deployment experience in ITS and ICT
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD is a plus

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
