Essential Responsibilities:
The FACTS Electrical Studies Engineer performs studies of electric power systems and equipment application associated with integration of Fixed Series Capacitors and Synchronous Condenser FACTS projects. This role interfaces with both the proposal tendering team and the project execution team, as well as work on product development programs. This role includes execution of computer simulations, developing data sets, and validating and documenting study and field test results as well as working closely with potential customers interfacing with their system planning departments to develop GE solutions.
Other duties include:
- Power system analysis for modeling, simulation, and evaluation of design alternatives
- Control engineering for solutions development with application to grid interconnected generation, transmission, or distribution
- Risk identification and mitigation in ITO process to build a high degree of confidence in equipment ratings and single line on proposals where FACTS owns system risk
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency using and creating simulation models with at least one transient analysis simulation package (ATP, PSCAD etc).
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE/MSEE) or Equivalent
- Minimum of 3-years’ experience (BSEE) or 1-years experience (MSEE) in either generation planning, market design and operations, utility operations, or energy market consulting.
Desired Characteristics:
- Technical performance analysis for electrical design, harmonic analysis, generator excitation modeling,
- Experience supporting power electronics control development for products connected to bulk utility systems or large industrial systems.
- Experience designing and modeling control systems.
- Experience with transient analysis including transient recovery voltage (TRV), arrester/MOV sizing and insulation coordination, torsional analysis, control interaction, power flow, transient stability, short circuit, grounding, protection and timing)
- Familiarity with global modeling and simulation requirements.
- Experience creating models of complex equipment in transient analysis (ATP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, etc) and stability (PSSE, PowerFactory, PSLF, etc) simulation tools based on field tests or equipment, or experience with RTDS systems.
- Active participation within industry professional societies, such as IEEE or CIGRE.
- Strong analytical skills, written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to travel (15-30% is typical)
- Strong communicator able to juggle multi-tasking in a high-pressure environment.
- History of working well in a matrixed team environment
