The Digital ETI (Emerging Technologies & Innovation) Team:

H-E-B is looking for leaders to advance further our ability to inspire, innovate, and drive transformative change through the discovery, learning, and implementation of technologies that will improve the lives of our customers and Partners. The Digital Emerging Technology and Innovation team is the technical arm charged with supporting these endeavors. As a member of the team, you will partner with the business to ideate, pilot, and potentially roll-out technologies to enhance the partner and customer journey. This team will have the opportunity to work with machine learning, computer vision, IoT, wayfinding, sensor fusion, and many other bleeding edge technologies. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new team on an inspiring mission.

What you'll do:
(Design & Development)
  • Support the team’s charter by exercising your skills in developing and implementing repeatable and scalable processes within the team
  • Operate independently with assistance from more experienced developers as needed
  • Participate in the full SDLC; including development, estimation, planning, and design
  • Deliver moderately complex code solutions
  • Contribute to overall system design, architecture, security, scalability, reliability, and performance of applications
  • Mentor and provide support to junior developers
  • Support the build and deployment pipeline; may assist in diagnosing / solving production support issues
  • Support technical design and delivery of complex features across multiple systems as H-E-B improves the user experience
  • Help create documentation and training related to technology stacks and standards within assigned team
  • Use / contribute to the refinement of Digital Engineering-related tools, standards, and training
  • Engage / collaborate with external technical teams to ensure timely, high-quality solutions
  • Engage with shared services teams and vendors when necessary

Who You Are:
  • You have a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
  • You have 2+ years of application development experience
  • You have an ownership mentality and can produce quality results with little direct supervision
  • You enjoy learning new technologies as they emerge
  • You have a strong understanding of coding standards and design principles / patterns
  • You have some experience with common software engineering, and build tools such as Git, JIRA, Confluence, etc.
  • You have some experience in / understand Lean Startup, SAFe or Agile development methodologies
  • You have experience writing unit tests and testable code
  • You're familiar with build and release procedures and tools
  • You have experience working with and around vendor solutions, including integration and customization of vendor solutions
  • Due to the diverse nature of the projects, a combination of the following is preferred, but all are not required: Java/JSP/swing/angular/React/Node/PHP, C/C++, Python/Golang/etc, Google and AWS architecture and design, Linux, ML, ETL/messaging/orchestration, monitoring and alerting tools, CI/CD, databases, containers, identity and data security, computer vision, mobile (Android/iOS) app development, BI/analytics, IoT/RFID devices and sensors/biometrics/hardware design among other bleeding edge technologies
  • Your experience in software engineering within the Retail or related industries is preferred
