SVP, Chief Information Officer

Red Robin is searching for an experienced, dedicated, and of service CIO (Chief Information Officer) to join our team in Englewood, Colorado. Reporting directly to Chief Executive Officer GJ Hart, the CIO is an integral member of the executive team and will provide the vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology initiatives for all areas of the company. They will oversee maintenance, advancement, and growth of all technological functions for all Corporate Red Robin Restaurants and the Restaurant Support Center. The CIO will partner and collaborate with stakeholders and align IT long term and short-term objectives with overall business strategy. Once familiar with Red Robin Operations, improve technology to eliminate obstacles, enhance efficiency, and optimize strategic benefit.

Specifically, S/he will be responsible for:

  • Leading IT strategic and operational planning to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing IT initiatives, and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT systems across the organization

  • Promoting a service culture within the IT department

  • Creating business value through technology

  • Providing leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the entire IT department (Restaurant and Corporate IT, Security and Risk IT, and Guest Experience and Business Intelligence IT)

  • Setting objectives, strategies, structure, and operating procedures for the IT Department that align with business goals and strategies

  • Partnering and collaborating with various stakeholders (i.e., Operations and Consumer Insights) to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations and to build cross-functional and long-term strategies and/or improvements

  • Adapting technological platforms to enhance Team Member and Guest experience by identifying opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and resources, including staffing, sourcing, purchasing of off the shelf available systems

  • Developing, tracking, and controlling the information technology annual operating and capital budgets; ensuring projects are completed on time and on budget

  • Making business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives; assessing and communicating risks associated with IT investments

  • Approving, prioritizing, controlling projects, and the project portfolio as they relate to the selection, acquisition, development, and installation of major information systems

  • Reviewing hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts and pursuing master agreements to capitalize on economies of scales

  • Defining and communicating corporate plans, policies, and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing, and operating IT systems

  • Develop and maintain security policies and procedures including, but not limited to, incident response plans and business continuity plans

  • Developing strategies to keep the company's information systems infrastructure, software and reporting capabilities that will continue to provide the company with a competitive edge in the restaurant industry; monitoring changes or advancements in technology

  • Verifying appropriate safeguards are in place for the information systems infrastructure, including sufficient cybersecurity protection

  • Ensuring stability and reliability of all systems and technology systems and procedures lead to outcomes in line with business goals and strategies

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Management Information systems or related field; master's degree in IT or technology related discipline (preferred)

  • Eight to ten years' experience in a similar role responsible for creating and managing information systems, applications, and technology for a medium to large restaurant/hospitality organization with multi-unit, multi-state operations and a distributed workforce

  • Experience working with senior leadership on annual and longer-term business and strategic plans to develop appropriate information systems that meet the needs of the organization

  • Cross-functional information technology experience with business systems analysis, software development and implementation, server-based applications, and networking; strong knowledge of network infrastructure, routing, switching, servers, clients, and mobile computing

  • Expertise with restaurant industry point of sale systems, financial systems support, data warehousing, HRIS and third-party delivery platforms and digital systems

  • Experience and knowledge of Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard compliance requirements, with experience bringing a system to compliance a plus

  • Strong knowledge of Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes and methodologies

  • Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting, and business operations

  • Understanding of a wide variety of attacks such as cross-site scripting, network intrusions, malicious emails, web-based attacks, malware, and botnet infections

  • Proven success in the execution of large-scale IT projects both on time and within budget

  • Business maturity with working knowledge of the various disciplines supporting the business, and the ability to translate technical ideas into layman's terms

  • High energy and enthusiasm, integrity, superior communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, resilience, service orientation and a collaborative influence style

  • Excellent leadership and management skills recognized as a respected team leader, motivator, and manager with proven ability to successfully develop and lead a team of professionals

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and possesses superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities

  • Adaptability and ability to flex in a continually changing environment
