The Hydraulic Modeling & Optimization Engineer supports Midstream through development of hydraulic, logistic, and energy management analyses to address system changes, improve operating efficiency, identify opportunities for improvement, mitigate risk, and address business questions. This position supports stakeholders in the Control Center, Business Development, Strategy, Pipeline Integrity, Field Operations, Engineering, and Projects.

Responsibilities May Include

Develop and tune hydraulic models for steady-state and transient pipeline studies, such as surge/overpressure, system design, and pipeline capacity.

Collaborate with stakeholders to develop simulations to address business questions, support growth initiatives, and to provide meaningful results.

Provide guidance to project engineers and 3rd party engineering firms regarding model configuration and operating scenarios.

Apply expertise in pipeline DRA (drag reducing additive) to hydraulic models and to organizational queries.

Develop and tune logistic models for truck rack and storage capacity studies.

Participate as a team member to develop a strategy for fuel, power, and DRA optimization.

Develop and implement pipeline operational cost (OPEX) and optimization studies.

Provide support and analysis for energy contract terms and negotiation.

Develop and implement tools for scheduling and Control Center operations to minimize operating costs.

Propose and sponsor capital projects for system optimization, such as engine replacements, VFD installations, DRA installations and pump modifications.

Mentor Operations Engineers and new team members in hydraulic, logistic and energy analyses skills.

Represent the Hydraulics and Energy Management Team at industry conferences and develop a network of internal and external resources for benchmarking and collaboration.

Participate in or lead projects supporting Hydraulics and Energy Management initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel

Working knowledge of Fluid Mechanics or Hydraulic Modeling

Working knowledge of programming principles

Ability to travel 10% of the time, including overnight

Preferred Qualifications

7 or more years of experience in the petroleum industry

3 or more years of experience with liquid pipeline hydraulic simulation/optimization

3 or more years of experience in pipeline field operations or corporate engineering

2 or more years of experience in the Midstream segment of the Oil & Gas Industry

1 or more years of experience in energy management economics and contract negotiation

Working knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps/motors/engines) efficiency optimization

Working knowledge of pipeline volumetric movements and line displacement

Midstream

Phillips 66's Midstream business is a safe, reliable and trusted logistics provider for the movement and storage of liquid or gas energy via pipelines or terminals. We are an industry leader in logistics and operate or manage more than 22,000 miles of pipelines that transport crude oil from oil fields to refineries and finished products from refineries to storage terminals. We operate 39 terminals that supply finished products to consumer gas stations, as well as crude oil and NGL storage terminals and NGL fractionation facilities. We also provide the connectivity between the various Phillips 66 business units.
