Job Summary
Provides multi-discipline engineering teams with strong technical and project leadership within a discipline, engineering section or for major exploration and production of oil and gas engineering projects. Possesses and applies advanced knowledge and technical skills to solve complex engineering problems, or to plan and coordinate larger scale engineering projects or varied assignments requiring diverse knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Provides subject matter expert technical consultation and assessment on engineering problems and projects for drilling, completion, and workover of wells to engineering personnel. Serves as a management consultant on complex petroleum engineering problems and issues. Controls technical, financial, and service commitments to internal or external customers. Performs highly complex and independent engineering research, advanced studies and analysis related to exploration and production of oil and gas wells to find innovative, safe, and cost-effective petroleum engineering solutions to operational problems. Designs and maintains highly complex project management control and functions as project leader on highly complex, innovative projects from design to completion. Responsible for conducting assessments of petroleum engineering projects to develop, train and implement best practices and set industry standards for excellence within engineer group.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
7+ years of upstream petroleum engineering experience;
Strong knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters;
Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements and processes;
Recognized subject matter expert by other engineers and management;
Provides expert technical consultation to other engineers and management;
Advanced knowledge of petroleum engineering principles and standards
Advanced knowledge of gas well completion and workover operations and oil; gas reserve estimation techniques and oil and gas economics
Advanced ability to apply scientific principles to analyze and solve problems creatively and innovatively
Advanced planning and project management skills;
Strong technical and organizational leadership skills with proven decision making skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);
In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.);;
Ability to think analytically and solve highly complex problems;
Advanced critical thinking skills, interpret codes, regulations and practices; and process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks;
Equally effective working independently or in team environment.
REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
