Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems
has several openings for Principal/Sr Principal Structural Analysis Engineers to join our Vehicle Engineering team of qualified, diverse individuals in Melbourne, Florida. CURRENT CLEARANCE NOT REQUIRED.

Essential functions:

  • Performs static, dynamic, and DaDT structural analyses of metallic and composite airframe structure, mechanical systems, and equipment, by hand and by using the automated methods and procedures approved for the program

  • Ensures that designs meet program requirements and are the lightest, lowest cost, and highest quality products consistent with schedule and budget objectives

  • The analyst may also be expected to derive non-flight applied loads, create, extract and distribute internal loads, and perform weight and stiffness optimization

  • Tools utilized may include FEMAP, NX, Teamcenter and other software applications

  • Candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions

This requisition may be filled as either a Principal Structural Engineer (level 3) or Sr Principal Structural Engineer (level 4) based on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Engineer: BS in an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years relevant experience; OR MS in an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 3+ years of relevant experience; OR Ph.D. in an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 1+ years of relevant experience

  • Sr Principal Engineer: BS in an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9+ years relevant experience; OR MS in an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 7+ years of relevant experience; OR Ph.D. in an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Background in aerospace structural analysis

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance and Special Access Program clearance prior to start



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Airframe experience with Advanced Composite Materials

  • Current, in-scope Secret DoD clearance or higher

  • Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering

  • Able to collaborate in a team environment

  • Able to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously

  • Able to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions



Salary Range: $90,400 USD - $135,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
