Job Description
Acumen carries out data analysis and builds visualizations that enable federal investigators at the Department of Justice (DOJ) to identify and pursue instances of healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse. Healthcare fraud amounts to tens of billions of dollars in losses each year, a significant proportion of federal healthcare spending, and we are at the forefront of efforts to curb this drain on government funds. The Visualization Developer will head our visualization efforts, which communicate the results of our analyses to federal investigators. Our high-quality visualizations mean the difference between getting lost in large-scale numerical analyses and efficiently identifying fraud. For example, our visualizations depict financial relationships between different providers (often revealing networks of fraud), flag providers with unusual activity compared to their peers, and highlight clusters of shared patients. Visualizations are based on analyses on billions of Medicare claim lines, and must be effective at communicating as well as visually attractive while remaining computationally efficient.

  • Develop rich, interactive data visualizations to facilitate data navigation and uncover insights. The visualizations will include elements such as interactive search, sortable tables, graphs, charts, maps, and other dynamic features.

  • Update existing visualizations to improve layout, load time, and add features.
  • Present design mockups and refine them as per feedback from stakeholders.
  • Rapidly design, prototype, and iterate on creative concepts to meet the stakeholder’s requirements.
  • Collaborate with data experts to create data schemas for the data that visualization application will read.
  • Gather visualization requirements and specifications from the client.
