We are the Home & Lifestyle retail team and our mission is to make the shopping for home products simple, visual, inspiring and trustworthy. If you have purchased toys for your children, supplies for your pets, or any item to furnish or decorate your home or complete your kitchen, you have used our software.

As the Tech Director for product discovery, you will be responsible for setting and executing the 3-5 year strategic direction of how our customers find home products that match their needs and style. Success means that when customers engage with Amazon to find the right product for them through searching, browsing and recommendations, they (1) find the exactly the right product quickly, (2) are aware of what’s available in the Amazon store, (3) understand the product well and (4) have collected ideas on how to create the home which reflects their style matches the product. To achieve this, you will build large scale systems used by millions of users, powered by image machine learning, natural language models, 3D rendering technologies and more.

The successful candidate has a track record of focusing the team on the right customer problems and opportunities, identifying the right technical strategy for customer facing products, and building resilient and state of the art systems. You will need to push the boundaries of what is possible to build innovative products and scale them across Amazon for our customers worldwide. As a leader of a multi-team organization you will handle problems that span business strategy, product choices, technology decisions, operational excellence management, and science priorities. You will experiment quickly, doubling down on good bets and scaling impact in the billions of dollars. Success in this role also requires the ability to closely collaborate with key leaders across Amazon and the ability to establish close relationships with technical peers to influence Amazon long term technical direction.

  • 15+ years of experience in building and operating large-scale technology systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in building and leading software engineering teams in a ‘leader of leaders’ role.
  • 5+ years of experience in managing executive level customer, stakeholder communication.
  • Prior experience in building highly scalable, extensible technology architectures.
  • Ability to leverage advanced science and 3D technologies in customer facing experiences.
  • Prior experience leading geographically diverse teams.
  • Ability to influence at all levels in a global matrix organizations.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize across multiple projects and deliver them with high attention to detail and quality.
  • Data-driven decision making with ability to dive deep into data and translate insights into opportunities.
  • Ability to think and influence both quantitatively and qualitatively.
  • Strong and persuasive written and verbal communication.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $264,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $350,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
