Position Information


We are seeking a talented UX/UI Designer to join our team and help us create outstanding digital experiences that impact the entire state of Texas. You'll be responsible for designing and implementing intuitive, user-centered experiences and interfaces for responsive websites, applications, and other digital products. You'll collaborate with teams to define and design requirements, create wireframes, prototypes, and iterate on designs based on user feedback. Position Description


You first and foremost understands our user's needs, desires, and behaviors. You think strategically when solving business objectives advocating for user needs and know how to deliver value incrementally. You drive UX and UI design for new features, capabilities, and products and are comfortable talking high-level needs with stakeholders and functionality with developers. You understand the importance of inclusion and deploy accessibility best practices at every stage. Design systems, user patterns and documentation are your daily practices.

Essential Duties:

  • Design engaging user-centered experiences in web, native, and hybrid platforms
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to understand and define business objectives
  • Creates user journey maps, empathy maps, and user personas
  • Refine, extend, and maintain enterprise design system
  • Design components and document user interface states and development requirements
  • Understand technical, business, and time limitations and design within these constraints
  • Lead user research activities documenting and implementing actionable feedback
  • Collaborate with accessibility and web teams to review and provide feedback on externally developed websites and products
  • Open to feedback and stays up to date with UX best practices
  • Translates industry standards, like Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) into understandable approaches for user experience and interface design
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in user experience design, human computer interaction, interaction design, communication design, related degree. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 5 years experience in web administration, development or design work. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years experience in UX, UI or product design, or design work.

Competencies:

  • Proficient in prototyping apps like Figma, Sketch, or InVision and other design
  • Experience with tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience with Adobe Experience manager, Craft, Drupal, Wordpress, or other content management systems
  • Solid understanding of experience design principles, best practices, and UX laws
  • Strong prioritization, planning and time management skills
  • Experience with Confluence, Sharepoint, or other collaboration platforms
  • Solid understanding of WCAG 2.0
  • Demonstrated understanding of user experience and user interface design
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders, developers, and other designers
  • Experience in user testing and user research

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
