Job Summary
Georgia Gwinnett College’s Digital Communications team seeks an experienced front end web developer to expand the college’s reach locally and nationally.
This position will report to the director of Digital Communications and utilize web development skills to create, develop and improve the GGC public website, campus portal and electronic communications to advance the college’s brand and mission.
This individual will be involved in all aspects of web development (planning, executing, testing, training and deploying) and provide support to Content Management System users. On an as-needed basis, this individual will address time sensitive and/or emergency situations that occur outside of regular business hours.
This individual will stay up-to-date on current website trends, higher ed trends and website best practices.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the GGC public and internal websites using up-to-date and effective web technologies with a focus on the end user experience and offering a consistent look and feel that aligns with brand standards, key messages, and college mission and goals.
- Ensure usability and accessibility of public and internal websites including 508 compliance.
- Analyze issues with appearance, performance or functionality and recommend/implement effective solutions.
- Serve as a liaison to web hosting company and CMS vendor for services, needs and product enhancements.
- Complete projects in a timely and efficient manner, collaborating with technical and non-technical campus partners/clients.
- Evaluate and prioritize reported website issues and functionality requests based on business needs, data and community standards.
- Create technical and end-user documentation including standards documentation.
- Provide support for campus events and serve as a backup for other Digital Communications team members as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Three to four years’ experience with website development, including website redesign, coding, site maintenance and providing technical support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of 508 compliance as associated with website content and pdfs.
- WordPress experience.
- Knowledge of JSON, XML, Google Analytics and regular expressions.
- Experience using project management tools and processes.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Willingness to learn and evaluate third-party software tools as needed.
- Familiarity with Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint as well as Adobe Acrobat.
- SEO optimization experience.
- Experience with information architecture and ability to develop mockups and prototypes.
- Able to write documentation for nontechnical users on various topics regarding software.
- Experience developing user interfaces and site navigation menus; some experience with design tools such as Photoshop.
- Experience using Acquia CMS or Drupal CMS.
- Effective work habits including initiative, a positive attitude, organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
- Proficiency using HTML/XHTML, CSS, and Git; experience with at least one programming language such as PHP or Javascript.
- Commitment to testing and debugging work before deploying.

- Strong organizational skills and the willingness to thoroughly test work before deploying.
- Able to write documentation for nontechnical users on various topics regarding software
