Job Description

The Software Engineer codes software applications based on business requirements. The Software Engineer work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.

Responsibilities

The Software Engineer standardizes the quality assurance procedure for software. Oversees testing and debugging and develops fixes. Research complaints and makes necessary adjustments and/or recommendations to resolve complex software-related issues. Understands department, segment, and organizational strategy and operating objectives, including their linkages to related areas. Makes decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations, requires minimal direction, and receives guidance where needed. Follows established guidelines/procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Understand desired programming outcomes by reviewing requirements, stories, acceptance criteria, and specifications with the source.
  • Translate requirements into logical program flow and module organization.
  • Translate logical program flow into one or more discrete software modules. This includes both updating and maintaining existing modules to incorporate new requirements and retire requirements no longer needed.
  • Implement advanced coding technologies, such as test-driven development, server virtualization, quality checks, and auto-deploy.
  • Design, write, and execute tests to validate the correct operation of each new or revised software module while ensuring no impact on existing functionality.
  • Follow company, department, and team standards and expectations for software creation.
  • Ensure code meets all quality standards, including security.
  • Document work according to company, department, and team standards and expectations.
  • Prepare effective maintenance and support documentation.
  • Work with teams doing release and support of the modules written by the application engineer, and of the system(s) where those modules reside.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 3+ years of Software Development experience
  • Various programming languages and frameworks such as: (C#,.Net, WCF/REST, MVC, Angular, JavaScript, Web API,SQL, TFS, Dynatrace)
  • Various integrated development environments (Visual Studio)
  • Various unit testing tools and methodologies such as NUNIT, MSTest, Mock and Fakes
  • Documentation tools such as MSOFFICE
  • Analysis and decomposition
  • Some understanding of relational databases and database theory (DB2 and SQL)
  • Understanding of the SDLC methodologies
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude
  • Strong communication skills with ability to interact with business and customer representatives
  • Passion for growing your skills, tackling interesting work and challenging problems
  • General knowledge of computer networks and infrastructure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • Experience using Helix principles and DevOps Development experience using Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server (TFS) or Azure DevOps, Experience with JavaScript, JQuery, XML, JSON, HTML 5
  • Experience with cloud technologies (Azure, PCF, AWS, etc.).
  • Experience with SSIS/SSRS, Web Services
  • Experience with Windows scheduling tools

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates must meet the following criteria:
At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested
Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership
Associates who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.
Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office associates with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.
Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information


Humana and its subsidiaries require vaccinated associates who work outside of their home to submit proof of vaccination, including COVID-19 boosters. Associates who remain unvaccinated must either undergo weekly negative COVID testing OR wear a mask at all times while in a Humana facility or while working in the field.
