The Opportunity:
The Creative Strategy and Brand Management Department is currently recruiting for an experienced Graphic Designer to join the team. The Graphic Designer is responsible for layout, design and production of marketing materials that create a consistent image in support of university marketing and branding strategies. This is a full-time, on-site, administrative and professional staff position, reporting to the Creative Director. The Graphic Designer is a self-sufficient designer with an excellent portfolio, a strong sense of typography and extremely detail oriented.
This position will be responsible for developing innovative design solutions and collaborating with clients to address communications needs while working within a group of creative professionals in a team environment. The position functions as creative contributor to various teams and individuals in a collaborative office environment.
This position requires the ability to understand the complex audiences of a a higher education institution (including potential students, donors, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni) and to develop strategies for communicating effectively with these diverse audiences through the lens of design.
The Graphic Designer demonstrates flexibility, innovation, and an interest in continued professional growth and learning; evidence of successful project management; and the ability to establish strong, positive relationships with all campus community members. The high volume and broad scope of work associated with this position also require a person who can focus on a specific creative endeavor while managing multiple projects.
Responsibilities include the following:
  • Design a variety of print marketing and promotional collateral that include such items as brochures, flyers, academic catalogs, billboards, posters and advertisements.
  • Collaborate with creative team staff and marketing team to develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet objectives of both internal and external audiences.
  • Prepare quote specifications for printers, photographers, exhibit companies and promotional merchandisers and then communicate with them to ensure materials are printed correctly and timely to meet deadlines.
  • Prepare accurate and efficient design files to produce final electronic files for prepress and printing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
  • At least three years of experience working as a graphic designer in-house or at an agency.
  • Ability to work in a complex institutional environment that is fast-paced, deadline-driven, and collaborative.
  • Strong ability to communicate and present designs effectively, including client pitches, as well as to welcome feedback and incorporate requested changes as projects evolve.
  • Computer skills on a Mac platform and familiarity with Adobe CC (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Demonstrated mastery of design principles through a portfolio of print and electronic products.
  • Strong design, layout and typography skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of planning, designing and producing visually appealing products that communicate a clear message to target audiences.
  • Ability to clearly communicate well with team members, clients and with outside vendors.
  • Ability to take an assignment or complex project and independently see it through the design and production processes.
