Junior Geologist/Environmental Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a junior-level Environmental Scientist/Geologist to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN serving both industrial and government clients. Typical duties include performing site investigations and various types of sampling, including low-flow groundwater sampling, surface water, sediment, soil, subsurface vapor, and air sampling. The field work will be mixed with supporting in-office project teams including preparing tables and maps, evaluating chemical and geological data, and working side-by-side with other staff in making recommendations and preparing memoranda, reports, and proposals. This is a hybrid position. This position requires the employee to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Your Role:
- The physical demands of this position require the ability to perform field work, including lifting and maneuvering of equipment and filled sample coolers, in a range of weather conditions.
- Typical tasks will include field work planning and preparation, drilling and monitoring well installation oversight, logging soil boreholes, and report preparation including text, tables, and figures.
- Other duties may be assigned as determined appropriate by the supervisor based on level of experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in geoscience, environmental science, or related environmental science field is required. Postgraduate or additional degrees are considered a plus.
- 0-3 years of professional environmental consulting experience. Project experience to include carrying out Phase I ESAs (ASTM-compliant), Phase II Site Investigations, vapor intrusion assessments, RCRA and CERCLA investigations.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training is preferred.
- Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of MS Office Suite and experience preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams. Must be a competent technical writer.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- U.S. Citizenship required and ability to pass background screening required to enter the Department of Defense (DoD) installations.
- Valid state driver license required.
- Attention to detail is required. The successful candidate must be able to observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
- Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data is required.
- Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers required.
- Working knowledge of the conceptual site model process is preferred.
- The successful candidate will work as a problem solver, will have an interest and ability to work in a collaborative manner, and will have the flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
- Ability to work during core and extended hours as required.
- Recent college graduates must demonstrate course work applicable to these job requirements by providing transcripts and writing samples.
