The Tactical Space System Mechanical Engineering organization is seeking a mid to senior level Mechanical/Structural Analysis Engineer to assist an experienced team of mechanical engineers performing mechanical and structural analysis on one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems. Desired requirements as follows:
- Have experience with fracture mechanics, and fatigue evaluations
- Have experience with fracture control and development of fracture control plans and methodologies. Evaluate compliance of flight hardware to fracture control requirements.
- Provide technical expertise for fracture control processes as part of design & development, test, evaluation, and processing of aerospace hardware
- Coordinate with NASA and other customers’ fracture control boards to show compliance to fracture control requirement.
- Responsible for evaluation of partner and vendor fracture control plans, fracture mechanics / fatigue analysis , material allowables and provide technical conclusions.
- Responsible for fracture evaluation and classification of in-house hardware
- Participate in non-compliance reviews and provide technical recommendations to resolve issues
- Document results and pull together fracture control summary reports
- Have experience with Abaqus software
In addition to above, perform other mechanical analysis tasks as per planned work Responsibilities may include the following:
- Performing static and dynamic structure analysis.
- Reviewing requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
- Selecting appropriate technical information and data from applicable products.
- Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and computing the engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications design needs and requirements of space applications.
- Releasing results as “technical documents” after review by the senior members of the team.
- Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts.
- Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups, and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.
- Developing, coordinating, and conducting test programs required to evaluate design work.
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at a either a Principal or Sr. Principal level.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical/Structural Engineer 3:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineer, Math or related area (Mechanical Engineering or Degrees with a focus in Structural Analysis highly preferred) 5+ years of experience or Master’s Degree and 3+ years.
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain government clearance.
- Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
- Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case by case basis).
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Mechanical/Structural Engineer 4:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineer, Math or related area (Mechanical Engineering or Degrees with a focus in Structural Analysis highly preferred) and 9+ years of experience or Master’s Degree and 7+ years.
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain government clearance.
- Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
- Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case by case basis).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with spacecraft or subsystem static/dynamic testing
- Experience utilizing MATLAB
