SUMMARY

The Test and Automation Engineer with a specialty in new automated test equipment (ATE) design is responsible for developing and maintaining customized automation equipment, processes, programs, and databases for global factories. Works with both R&D and operations to support New Product Introduction as well as improves operational efficiency and quality.

The engineer is responsible for the software development, mechanical design, and electrical design of new automated test equipment as well as the reliability, timeline, budget, and yield of test equipment released to production. The products tested will include electromagnetic devices such as motors as well as higher-level assemblies that may include motors, gears, lead screws, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and modify a wide array of automated test and manufacturing/process equipment with regards to electrical schematics, mechanical CAD, test software, and SQL/MySQL databases
  • Create instructions and guides for all new equipment including but not limited to: limit creating guides, summaries of tests for operators and technicians, maintenance troubleshooting guides
  • Monitor recently released ATEs for yield issues related to inaccuracy and “false failures” and troubleshoot and determine root cause/corrective action (RCCA)
  • Collect feedback from production supporting engineers including TE on ATE designs
  • Work with new and innovative equipment to maintain any system or process with the understanding of production requirements
  • Perform necessary Quality checks and data collection
  • Work with development team, manufacturing engineers as well as production personnel to resolve technical issues that are identified through the development and manufacturing process.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturability/Testability feedback to the design team.
  • Participation in activities pertaining to product evaluation test, including ABS events, design review meetings, meetings with suppliers, as required.
  • Responsible for storage of final Test Spec and Gauge R&R results in SVN

Education and Experience Requirements


  • BS of Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Automation, Controls, Robotics, or Computer Science required
  • Strong LabVIEW, C++, C#, Matlab, or VB experience
  • CAD software design experience (e.g. AutoCAD, Solidworks, Inventor, or Pro-Engineer)
  • Strong electrical, mechanical, and controls background is required to troubleshoot systems, machinery, and test equipment
  • Must have good computer skills (must be familiar with MS Office, Excel, etc.)
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills for direct and frequent communication with internal and external customers and suppliers.

Desired Experience


  • 2 years of experience with electric motors and/or rotating machinery
  • Familiar with database structure and SQL language
  • Familiar with various industry-standard machine communication protocol
  • Experience using precision measurement devices and data acquisition (analog, digital I/O, temperature, etc.)
  • Experience reading and working to blue prints, work instructions, and schematics to troubleshoot problems or make required changes
  • Experience with pneumatic or hydraulic systems
