We are the Protections (Trust) Engineering Team in eBay’s Payments Organization, responsible for building seller and buyer post transaction experiences (Cancel, Returns, Item-Not-Received, Payment Disputes, Refunds, Seller Standards, and Service metrics). As a self-motivated and enthusiastic member of our team, you will work with talented engineers, PM and Business partners in a fun environment building world class customer experiences. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and build the platform to power the Protections experiences.

• Responsible for architecture, design and implementation of features in Post-transaction Platform that supports business process needs of existing Products (INR, Returns, Refunds etc) and also support any new requirements in building workflow systems

• Responsible for updating existing or building new micro services and integration with existing systems at eBay using REST or pub/sub technologies

• Helps in transforming a culture of point data engineering solutions - Repeatable Software engineering solutions

• Bringing new ideas to adapt to technological developments and building POCs to demonstrate

• Ensures that detailed unit and component testing is carried out

• Sets and adheres to software coding and style guides to ensure consistency

• Brings in strong software design and development experience in Java (or equivalent) and backend development

• Java (or equivalent), SQL, noSQL, pub/sub systems such as Kafka, Observability (Prometheus or equivalent)

• Technical attitude to understand issues and work with cross functional teams to solve problems

• Perform root cause analysis for production errors, investigate and resolve technical issues

• Hands-on experience in building highly available, scalable distributed systems

• Hands-on experience in using / building a Rule engine (like drools) will be a plus

• Hands-on experience in using Node.JS, react.JS, HTML5, CSS3 will be a plus

• BS, MS in Computer Science or relevant demonstrated experience with 10+ years of software development experience

• Experience driving architecture discussions, producing well-documented design docs, participating in design and code reviews and contributing to coding and unit testing of fault-tolerant applications. Comfortable or have familiarity with all the layers of multi-tier applications to design complete solutions and maintain products

• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures and algorithms along with up-to-date knowledge in advancement in Web technologies and drive innovation. Experience in non-functional skills like Security, Load and Performance Tests, Accessibility, Site Speed optimization, Cross-browser /Cross-platform UX Design

• Expertise in object-oriented design methodology and application development in Java/J2EE (or equivalent) and building Restful services

• Leadership experience to guide, influence, and effectively communicate to drive engineering excellence within the team and partner effectively and influence peers, juniors, and seniors both within the organization and across eBay

• Working with customers (could be cross functional teams) in understanding their requirements and coming up with right technical requirements for enhancing our platform

• Experience ensuring code quality and maintainability by evolving architecture and tech stack, refactoring, standards and improving build and test systems. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins

• Experience estimating engineering efforts, planning execution cycles, rolling out system changes and providing support post production. Experience proposing and implementing working prototypes for testing new ideas

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment in California, Washington, or New York City is expected in the range below.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave).
