About the Role
The Underwriter Technician will Compile, issue, and bill policies, endorsements, and certificates at the direction of the Underwriter. The UT will respond to broker requests for service requests in coordination with the Underwriter. Keeps abreast of changes in forms and regulatory environment. Computes additional and return premiums in accordance with pro-rata and short-rate scales. Communicates with producers, insureds, bureaus, etc., to ensure common understanding, rating, and issuing policies, endorsements and quotations; and resolves procedural and computational problems of involved, lengthy, multi-location, or difficult risks.
Performance Objectives:
  • Evaluates new and renewal policies and endorsements against prescribed criteria to determine if risk qualifies for acceptance; verifies and rates new business; investigates inconsistencies related to risk acceptance; reviews situations not covered by criteria; and develops information for underwriters to isolate problems.
  • Issues policies, endorsements, and cancellations; prepares policy writing instructions and premium billings; processes individual policy filings; analyzes submissions for accuracy of policy issuance information from the underwriter and/or broker, ensuring policies contain all compliance information as indicated on the hand-off sheet; and checks/signs policies prior to release.
  • Communicates with producers, insureds, bureaus, etc. to ensure common understanding, rating, and issuing policies, endorsements and quotations; and resolves procedural and computational problems of involved, lengthy, multi-location, or difficult risk.
  • Assists the underwriter in the preparation of business, line reports and agency analysis and completion of the Audit; prepares underwriting hand-off sheets and renewal information; assists in the review of procedures to resolve issues; and trains and instructs lower level Assistants and Clerks.
  • Participates in research projects involving identification and classification data; conducts Quality Control of issued policies and accurate file maintenance; and reviews experience and classification.
The Ideal Candidate Should Have:
  • 3+ years insurance or reinsurance experience, preferably with Aerospace related business
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be highly motivated, and organized with an ability to multi-task
  • College degree preferred
