What You Will be Doing
The purpose of this job is to provide technical and functional expertise in the areas of ergonomics to enhance the design, manufacturability, and serviceability of equipment and controls for the vehicle cab and surrounding areas (with a particular focus on the Cab Body, Exterior and Interior areas). This is done through the application of digital human modeling software, used for evaluation and design of driver environments for commercial and global truck interiors and exteriors.
Candidates must have the ability to collect and interpret the principles, theories, and concepts of ergonomics whilst being able to apply them in an innovative and original method to further the development of the products. The candidate should be an energetic and enthusiastic team player.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a specialist within the ergonomics area relating to visibility, driver position, ingress/egress, working comfort, & resting comfort.
- Plan, conduct, and lead experiments/clinics to collect pertinent data.
- Conduct applied and theoretical human factors and ergonomics research to develop design requirements for projects.
- Support the cross functional balancing of ergonomics requirements with other interfacing feature requirements.
- Monitor and assess requirement fulfillment and validate resulting feature levels in project deliveries
- Develop CAD concepts and designs of various vehicle exterior and interior components associated with driver environment and packaging.
- Keep track of CAD studies and simulations relating to ergonomics and visibility
- Participate in cross-functional & cross-site teams where Ergonomics input is required.
- Participate in Advanced Engineering projects and closely follow the evolution of Ergonomics demands.
- Serves as a consultant/contact within the global organization for his/her areas of expertise.
Who You Are
Requirements:
- Minimum BS Degree in Engineering, preferably MS with Ergonomics Engineering or Biomechanics.
- 8+ years of experience applying general ergonomics principles/techniques to the design and evaluation of transportation products or other relevant industry.
- Knowledge and experience of product development projects within the driver environment in cars and/or in commercial vehicles
- Good knowledge in ergonomics including how ergonomics simulation & engineering judgment is applied to ergonomics
- Have a good ability to communicate both in written and spoken English
- Competent in Catia V5 (or similar CAD Software), Ramsis, and Human Builder
