Essential Job Functions

JOB EXPECTATIONS:
Works in conjunction with professional IT engineers to ensure that our organization's efforts for community improvement and better quality of life continues uninterrupted.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides support to systems customers and/or departmental staff for a variety of information technology related issues including the identifying, tracking, documenting, researching, and resolving of basic problem calls.

  • Serves as a liaison between field staff and centralized IT staff by answering questions, providing instructions and furnishing written materials, forms, and policies and procedures related to departmental and County IT systems.

  • Responds to reported desktop related connectivity problems such as issuing or resetting customer passwords.

  • Supports IT professionals by performing routine systems testing, including validating user manuals, procedures, and other instructional materials.

  • Assists in documenting Help Desk calls that require higher level research and investigation.

  • Extracts and summarizes report data; compiles statistics, analyzes data, and prepares reports for management.

  • Coordinates IT training scheduling for departmental staff as needed.

  • Assists in IT technical training of departmental users as needed.

  • Acts as lead to Information Technology Aides and other clerical personnel as needed.

  • Assists in the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of information technology devices including personal computers, video display terminals, printers, cabling and other hardware as needed.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:
One (1) year, full-time equivalent experience within the last five (5) years providing assistance to professional information technology staff and providing routine customer related information systems related tasks at the level of Los Angeles County class of Information Technology Aide.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
Experience at the level of the County of Los Angeles class of Information Technology Aide is defined as providing assistance to professional IT staff by performing routine information systems related tasks in a centralized IT organization.

Centralized IT organization is defined as a unit or department that provides comprehensive IT services such as analysis, design, acquisition, development, implementation, maintenance, and/or support of information systems, under the direction or guidance of the organization’s Chief IT official.

Acceptable Los Angeles County classes at the level of Information Technology Aide are, but may not be limited to: Veteran Intern, Information Technology Support, Computer System Operator, Computer Operator Specialist , or Computer Systems Scheduler II.

WITHHOLD INFORMATION:

No withholds will be allowed for this examination. Required experience must be fully met and indicated on the application by the last day of filing.

ENDORSEMENT OF COUNTY QUALIFICATIONS:
Employees who wish to qualify using experience gained in county classifications that are not at the level of the classification listed above must provide verification of qualifying out-of-class experience by providing official documentation of additional responsibility bonus, out-of-class bonus, temporary assignment bonus or reclassification study with CEO Classification with your application at the time of filing or within seven (7) calendar days from application submission. Employees do not need to submit such verification if they hold or have held a position at the level of the classification listed above.

LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
2 - Light. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of TWO (2) parts:

Part I: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessments, weighted 80 %, covering:

  • Accurate Typing
  • Achievement
  • Learning Potential
Part II: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessments, weighted 20%, covering:
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Service Desk Skills (Troubleshooting, Start-Up Problems, Optimization, Network, etc.).
MULTIPLE-CHOICE AND SIMULATION ASSESSMENTS ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES, PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

Applicants must meet the requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on each weighted test part in order to be placed on the eligible list.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION :
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months.

VACANCY INFORMATION :
The resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies throughout various Los Angeles County departments as they occur.
