Job Description
Software Engineer (Core Authentication) - Duo Security

Duo Security, now a part of Cisco, is the leading multi-factor authentication (MFA) and secure access provider.

Duo + Cisco = Disco

With the Most Loved Company in Security and the global leader in network technology joining forces, there are more exciting opportunities than ever to be at the forefront of securing the cloud.

Our mission is simple: democratize security by making it easy and effective for everyone. We’re transforming security from the ground up by solving the world’s most pressing geopolitical challenge — safe, secure information access. We engineer our business to enable our customers to easily address their ever-evolving security challenges.

We believe that impactful work is rewarding work and that our team is at its best when everyone feels empowered to bring their whole self to work. We learn together by hiring for cultural contribution, not cultural fit, and recognize that diversity in background and thought are essential to building high-impact teams.

We invest in growth and learning opportunities and encourage our people to never stop learning. We foster collaboration and believe in being recognized (and rewarded!) for hard work. We champion a healthy work-life balance. We’re kinder than necessary.

Together we build for the future by designing simple solutions for complex problems. And that’s why we’re the most loved and trusted name in security.

What you’ll do…
As a Software Engineer on the Core Authentication team, you’ll be joining a new team whose aim is to reimagine how authentication works at Duo. As Duo moves to offer authentication offerings beyond Multi-Factor (SSO, Passwordless, Cisco Zero Trust) the need for shared services and features among them increases. The vision of this team is to identify and create these shared services, which can then be used as building blocks across Duo’s products. This team will work alongside other engineers, architects, and cross-team partners as the team defines and builds out this direction.

We are looking for someone who has successfully developed highly scalable web applications and has a proven foundation of software development best practices. Experience thinking through architectural trade-offs, developing with microservices, or interest working in the space are a big plus.

If you're coming up short in these areas, but think you can excel in this role, convince us why!

Skills you have…
  • 3+ years professional software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years programming with Python or Java
  • 2+ years experience with SQL or similar relational database models
  • 2+ years creating web services for external, enterprise customer usage

Even better if…
  • Experience dissecting large nebulous problems into small, achievable steps that balance short term gains with long term wins
  • Pragmatic problem solving - we build for the long term and are mindful that we are supporting a critical area of the business
  • A solid understanding of security best-practices in web development
  • Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture
  • Experience with asynchronous programming patterns

Reasons why you should apply
If this role and the security field is exciting to you, we encourage you to apply - even if you don’t meet all 100% of the description or qualifications. If you have been an effective technical contributor to software projects and can show consistent examples of having led others, regardless of role or title, we want to hear from you.
