As Embedded Software Standards Engineer, you will contribute significantly to the uniform, reliable and effective operation of our rapidly growing portfolio of EV Charging Systems. Leveraging your digital standardization expertise, you’ll write, develop and test software that will enable E-mobility to establish and implement technical operating software standards, that are embedded in our EV Chargers globally. ***This position will be based in one of the following locations: Richmond, VA, Detroit, MI, Columbia, SC, Raleigh, NC, or Milwaukee, WI***
This position reports to
Director, R&D Hardware Engineering, E-mobility
Your responsibilities
- Review and develop technical standards for the digital electronics and software of EV chargers
- Write, develop, and test embedded software that ultimately sets the technical standards, ensuring an effective baseline for further innovation in electric charging
- Work collaboratively with the R&D Interoperability team to share knowledge of the best methods to bring technology innovations to life
- Provide standards support to R&D, product development, and product management teams globally
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Computer Engineering or related field is required with a minimum of 2 or more years of experience in embedded systems software development
- In lieu of having a degree, we will consider 5 or more directly related software Standards experience
- Experience and knowledge of Python, C/C++, C# and HTML5 required
- Must have ability to interpret, read and write technical standards for software, e.g., ISO15118, DIN70121, SAE2847, etc.
- Previous experience participating in a steering committee, or similar team accountable for defining and implementing technical software standards is highly preferred
- Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, global team environment
- Excellent English language speaking, reading, and writing skills and abilities are required
- Must be willing and comfortable performing hands-on work, with a can-do mindset
- Demonstrated ability to meet project timelines and deliverables is required
- Ability to travel up to 20% is required
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
