Mechanical Design Engineer I
Mechanical Design Engineer I to work in Troy, Michigan
: In the automotive industry, maintain thorough familiarity with Instrument Cluster Designs and Design Engineering Standards. Design and develop In-Plane Switching (IPS) and Head-Up Displays (HUD). Create 3D Models and 2D drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for all structural components considering Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) factors, cost, material and component specifications, and other design. Perform engineering calculations and Stack-up Analysis in order to ensure the design deliverables conform to the standards and specifications. Interface with the customer’s technical staff to further understand design requirements during the design specification and Styling development phase and during product development phase. Compile Specification Confirmation Reports prior to the development. Ensure the Design Development related deliverables are met on time. Prepare Structural, Thermal and Dynamic Analysis using FEA Software – ABAQUS. Utilize Light Simulation Software – OPTIS to conduct Optical Design and Simulation. Develop prototypes during the build trials. Test and evaluate IPC/HUD Products as required. Perform benchmark analysis and compile market trend analysis of IPC/HUD Products. Prepare technical documents in support of Quality Gate Assessment meetings with Parent Company. Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Automotive Engineering (or equivalent based on evaluation of academic credentials, training and/or experience) as well as twenty-four (24) months in job or job related experience, in the automotive industry, to include, create 3D Models and 2D drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for all structural components considering Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) factors, cost, material and component specifications, and other design; ensure the Design Development related deliverables are met on time; prepare Structural, Thermal and Dynamic Analysis using FEA Software; utilize Light Simulation Software to conduct Optical Design and Simulation; and develop prototypes during the build trials.
