As Digital Hardware Design Engineer, you will contribute significantly to new EV charger systems design and analysis supporting product development projects by identifying and implementing innovative solutions. Leveraging your electronic and microprocessor circuit design engineering technical expertise, you’ll be directly accountable for product design optimization including optimal PCB Layout design and product manufacturability in support of the advancement and growth of our EV Charger product lines and portfolio. ***This position will be based in one of the following locations: Richmond, VA, Detroit, MI, Columbia, SC, Raleigh, NC, or Milwaukee, WI***

This position reports to

Director, R&D Hardware Engineering, E-mobility

Your responsibilities

  • System conception design and analysis of microprocessor-controlled circuits
  • Develop and provide commissioning support of analog and digital circuits
  • Circuit design and creation of specifications for an optimal PCB layout design
  • Perform product design and analysis for optimal manufacturability
  • Research and provide technical analysis and testing of electronic components for their use in new EV Charger products, or as a replacement of second source components in our existing product lines
  • Create new and develop updates to the technical product documentation
  • Conduct hardware-specific tests
  • Participate in related product design reviews

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or related field is required with a minimum of 2 or more years of experience in hardware development of industrial automation components and/or embedded systems
  • In lieu of having a degree, we will consider 5 or more directly related circuit design engineering experience
  • Experience in EMC and standard-compliant design required
  • Must have proficiency in applying design-to-cost and design-to-manufacturing methods
  • Experience with common CAD tools for circuit and layout design as well as tools for circuit simulation (e.g., Allegro, PSpice, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, global team environment
  • Excellent English language speaking, reading, and writing skills and abilities are required
  • Must be willing and comfortable performing hands-on work, with a can-do mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project timelines and deliverables is required
  • Ability to travel up to 20% is required
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
