About the Job:
As the Network Technician, you will be responsible for reliable network connectivity including the physical layer out to the end user regarding hardware, wireless access and telecommunication configuration, for all executive branch and some non-executive branch agencies. In this position you will work with the Network Management team and IP Unified Communications team on projects, provide installation and support of network equipment and IP phone deployments for local and remote agencies throughout Indiana.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- You will install network hardware and wiring.
- You will cable plant design and installation.
- You will be responsible for telecommunication adds, moves and changes; configuring and installing layer 2 switches and the initial troubleshooting of these devices out to and including the physical layer.
- You will be responsible for deployment and installation of IP phones and the initial troubleshooting of these devices.
- You will provide technical advice to ensure the development of specifications for network (telecommunications and TCP/IP based) equipment and wiring.
- You will provides problem solving or determination and support to ensure proper escalation during periods of outages.
- You will provide integrated customer support to all users on network problems.
- You will provide interface with vendor support services groups.
- You will present information to management regarding purchase of network hardware and wiring.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- 5 years of comparable experience as a Network Technician.
- Extensive knowledge of network hardware and wiring technologies.
- Extensive knowledge of equipment and the cabling infrastructure in state facilities.
- Extensive knowledge of most recent technical developments in the hardware field.
- Considerable knowledge of networking protocols.
- Basic knowledge of network operating systems in use by the State of Indiana and local area network concepts.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand complex technical manuals and diagrams on hardware and wiring.

Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $55,224. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.
