Job Description Summary

The Materials Engineering Lead Engineer will work within the Chemistry and Materials team to support all business units within GEH/GNF across Nuclear Engineering. The role involves developing new material technology, characterizing material behavior, and performing design analyses for both plant and fuel applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support towards the development and execution of BWR plant and fuel related materials deliverables within both GEH and GNF businesses

  • Provide technical leadership in the development and execution of BWR material property behavior test programs

  • Perform technical evaluations, analyses and verifications in the areas of BWR nuclear plant and fuel material applications

  • Perform work in compliance with NRC regulated policies and procedures

  • Interface with internal and external customers on technical issues

  • Support Company initiatives

  • Meet customer commitments and drive continuous improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Material Science, Nuclear, Mechanical, or similar

  • At least 5 years of experience in an engineering capacity

  • Must be located, or willing to relocate to the Wilmington, NC area

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in specific technology areas: BWR plant and fuel material processing, testing, and in-service performance behavior.

  • Experience with BWR and PWR technology (i.e. reactor structural materials, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and zirconium alloys)

  • Knowledge of reactor material licensing requirements

  • Demonstrated high energy and the ability to energize others

  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude

  • Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles; ability to achieve stretch targets

  • Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
