The Lead Midstream Commercial Engineer is responsible for supporting the activities of the Midstream & Marketing Department and Operations in a commercial and technical role. This position’s primary focus will be on managing the day-to-day commercial aspects of the physical takeaway of wet gas, crude oil and produced water, as well as management of any capital projects needed to support the takeaway and monetization of gas, oil or produced water. This position will work hand-in-hand with PDC Planning and Development (P&D) and Asset/Operations teams to develop, interpret and communicate production forecasts and ensure subsequent infrastructure needs are secured.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The tasks, duties, and responsibilities of the position that are most important to get the job done.
  • Commercially minded engineer to develop and maintain strong relationships with third party midstream providers to help ensure adequate infrastructure is in place to support the PDC drilling and completions program;
  • Manage capital projects, as needed, to support or supplement the takeaway of gas, oil and/or produced water from PDC wellhead facilities;
  • Track performance versus budget for capital projects (Opex, Capex, utilization, etc.;) and ensure upfront design assumptions align with actual/current performance;
  • Manage internal communication around third party planned and unplanned maintenance, throughput impacts, capacity constraints, etc.;
  • Help serve as liaison between PDC operations and PDC corporate teams and third-party midstream providers; lead weekly, monthly and quarterly conference calls, meetings and planning sessions
  • Assist, as needed, in all midstream cross-function efforts. Including but not limited to: annual budgeting responsibilities, drill site selection and planning and development, quarterly operations/financial review, etc…
  • Assist the Senior Manager of Corporate Midstream in evaluating technical and financial options to gather and process PDC wet gas, crude oil and produced water production
  • Assist, as requested, the Business Development team in the technical and commercial evaluation of assets for acquisitions, divestitures and acreage trade/swaps;
  • Leverage understanding of engineering concepts and existing physical infrastructure assets, both third party and internal, to guide near-term and long-term infrastructure build-out;
  • Interact closely with third party service providers to ensure on-time connects of PDC wells and favorable pipeline hydraulics;
  • Assist PDC Operations and EHS, as needed, to ensure cooperation from third party service providers around all EHS and OSHA rules and regulations;
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and environmental compliance in all job aspects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
The specific minimum competencies required for job performance.
  • Entrepreneur type with natural leadership abilities;
  • In-depth knowledge of gathering and processing fundamentals including gas and liquid pipeline hydraulics and NGL recovery fundamentals;
  • In-depth knowledge/experience of pipeline and facility construction, specifications, codes, standards;
  • Experience working with local municipalities and regulatory agencies (CDPHE, COGCC, Weld County)
  • Ability and willingness to be available for PDC Operations, as needed, at all times;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, presentation, verbal and written communication skills; track record of effective cross departmental communication primarily with Operations personnel;
  • General understanding of midstream financials and midstream gathering and processing contracts;
  • Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the DJ Basin and Rocky Mountain areas with Delaware/Permian Basin a plus;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks; Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skill set;
  • Ability to self-manage and self-motivate.

  • 10% travel can be expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum level of education, experience, and certifications required to perform the job.
  • Advanced incumbent with substantial job related experience and position specific skills. In addition, possesses an accomplished knowledge base of inter and cross departmental functions;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering;
  • 10+ years of experience in Commercial Midstream, Project Management, and/or Engineering at a midstream or Exploration & Production (“E&P”) company;
  • Extensive experience is managing capital projects in excess of $5-10MM.
