Minimum Qualifications
Graduate Engineer B:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in engineering.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Texas: Engineer – In Training Certification
Engineer A:
- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Notes to Applicants
This position provides technical consulting services in the Green Building Evaluation and Development group to support the Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) programs toward meeting the objectives of the Climate, Resource, Generation and Climate Protection Plan. The person in this position will:
- Review and approve client building energy models submitted for AEGB ratings to confirm energy and peak demand savings.
- Research and develop processes and tools for building and reviewing energy models.
- Build energy simulation models to quantify energy and demand savings from adoption of new energy codes and updated AEGB rating programs.
- Evaluate the operational building performance as compared to the modeled design performance for selective projects participating in AEGB programs.
- Provide consulting to project teams and outreach to external organizations.

Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the ASHRAE 90.1 Performance Rating Method, International Energy Conservation Code and the City of Austin Energy Code
- Knowledge of building systems
- Experience in using energy modeling software applications (e.g. OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, eQuest, BEopt, IES)
- Knowledge of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP)
- Ability to organize and document work
- Skill in oral and written communications
- Skill in reading architectural plans and specifications
