This position is for a ship specification engineer working in a design-build sustainment environment. The engineer works closely with multiple disciplines including design, components and system engineering, construction, testing, quality, cost engineering, contracts, and program offices in the research and development of new ship specification requirements and revisions to existing requirements via the submittal of Ship Specification Change Proposals (SCPs). The engineer also frequently interfaces with customer (NAVSEA) representatives as required. The engineer is responsible for ensuring complete specification packages are prepared and submitted to NAVSEA for approval that clearly describe proposed new requirements and/or changes with detailed rationale for all applicable cost, schedule, weight, and other impacts appropriately identified and explained. After development of submittal packages, the engineer ensures accuracy and completeness and coordinates the completion of all follow-up actions. The engineer is responsible for meeting submittal schedules and must be aggressive in coordinating overall efforts. Additional responsibilities include reviewing Engineering Reports (ERs), DFAs, alterations, and contract changes for impacts to ship specifications. The engineer will perform specification research and problem resolutions pertaining to ship specifications including primary reference documents. Primary reference documents include but are not limited to military and commercial standards, NAVSEA technical publications, design disclosure documents, and component / system specifications.
Qualifications:
Required:
- 0 to 5 years experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred) or a Masters degree related to Engineering.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance through the department of defense.
Preferred:
- Previous Navy shipboard operational experience is desired.
- Previous experience communicating with NAVSEA.
- Ability to work both within and outside their discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Skills:
Attention to detail, strong technical writing skills, and a desire to work with submarine design and construction requirements are necessary.
